Basanite is a porous material, so it weathers. Weathering varies from piece to piece, depending on the particular composition of the basanite, which is different each time. Logically, the alternation of temperature and humidity speeds up the weathering process, but we do not feel that weathering is faster in our conditions than in Indonesia. However, there is no need to impregnate our cast garden lamps as these are cast from a mixture of Basanite and cement which makes them extremely weather resistant. Further protection is then provided by their coloured finish.
